Three times cancer survivor Findlay is pulling his running shows back on!
10 days after I finished treatment for cancer first time in 2003 I completed Chicago Marathon in 3hours 39min. I celebrated by running 4 half marathons in 24 hours in 2004, the second time I took on Great World Run in 2006 but after beating cancer for third time in 2011 I lost my confidence to run – it time to complete unfinished business!
On my Birthday I will pull my running shoes back on - start the long journey to rebuild my fitness, over come the mind games to regain confidence to run again. An emotive trip down memory lane from home town Castle Douglas at sunrise, to my favourite run location - Tyne Bridge Newcastle and finishing with a logistical test for the future – run all central London postcodes - in around 12 hours!
My come back run will be typical of what I will repeat every day in the 14 days directly before Great Manchester on May 20th – running each of 121 postcodes across the UK. My mission is to find someone in every postcode in UK to join Team Findlay for Great North Run and persuade as many people to fundraise as I run around our amazing country.
On September 9th I will run with someone from every postcode in country for Cancer Research UK – but put to bed the questions can I get fit enough to redo my original challenge 4 half marathons in 24 hours – in Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and my home straight in England the Greatest run – the Great North Run 2018!
